Position Description

Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Project Manager position that has a minimum of twelve years of practical project management experience working on a variety of corporate tactical and strategic projects. You also have business experience outside of project management and may have worked in different organizations and/or industries.


What You’ll Bring

This position utilizes proven skills in project management and control, team management, business analysis, communications, risk management, budget management, quality management, benefits management and interpersonal relations to manage projects which are mostly cross-functional in nature.

The Project Manager is accountable to create the project framework (structure, governance, scope, budget, roles/responsibilities, etc.) and ensure the work undertaken to execute the project is successfully delivered within the established quality requirements and schedule. It is expected the Project Manager will engage and expend corporate resources wisely.

The successful Project Manager is well-versed in the use of project management tools, practices and templates. They can identify and use the most appropriate set of tools/templates for his/her projects. The Project Manager takes a support role within the development and maturity of PMO tools, methods and processes, and continually seeks to support the improvement of PMO efficiency.

The Project Manager must possess well developed communications, negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to successfully transform ambiguous environments with competing business priorities into a structured environment with the support of their Manager as needed. 

The Project Manager is accountable for the overall success of the project. They are able to operate independently and are accountable for the day to day decisions for the project. 

The Project Manager would benefit from having experience with Agile Delivery and providing vision and direction to Agile teams/stakeholders. The candidate would have familiarity with product/feature backlog management and product development. They can define product vision and can develop roadmaps. .

The Project Manager will have interaction at all levels in the organization, with their primary project relationships being with the key project stakeholders. 


Mandatories (must have to qualify)

  • Engage corporate resources wisely.
  • Engage staff thoughtfully and ensure meetings/project related contact are timely, each have identified result goals/objectives and are focused.
  • Ensure involved staff and their direct supervisor are well versed on their role/responsibility within the project.
  • Ensure project documentation and control templates are concise, have a purpose and are meaningful to the Executive Sponsor, Project Owner and project team.
  • Ensure financial decisions are well researched and appropriate within assigned responsibility. Those outside will be escalated to the Project Owner for approval by way of a recommendation .

PMO Methodologies and Standards

  • Manage tactical and lower level strategic level projects in accordance with established PMO Methodologies and Standards.
  • Create and execute the appropriate framework and controls for projects (Management Areas: integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder).
  • Manage projects to established PMO and specific project management quality standards.
  • Provide leadership to project teams, coordinate and assign project activities.
  • Responsible for project financial performance.
  • Manage project communications including providing regular status updates to all project sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure an appropriate level of change management and benefits management is delivered in the project.
  • Ensure that customer expectations are met or exceed and are managed effectively.
  • Remove obstacles and resolve issues, mitigate risk, assess cross-project impacts, and ensure overall business readiness to receive the project results.

Methods, Tools and Processes

  • Leverage, improve knowledge and application of project management methods, tools and processes within projects, the PMO and the corporation.
  • Utilize and adhere to approved PM tools, processes and standards.
  • Identify and assist in the development new tools as needed. Select and customize tools to the needs of each project while maintaining established PMO standards and practices.
  • Improve personal knowledge, expertise and effectiveness in project management through continuous learning and development.

Experience:

  • Seven years of demonstrated project management experience in leading all aspects of a project life
    cycle including; opportunity identification, foundational understanding, detailed planning,
    design/development, implementation and closure.
  • At least twelve years of business/management experience (may include project management
    experience).
  • Broad experience as a Project Manager on a range of complex strategic projects.
  • Experience in delivering business-technology initiatives in an agile or hybrid environment.
  • Proven successful staff management and expertise.
  • Significant experience with Project Management software, tools, and methodologies.
  • Banking experience is desirable.

Education and Training:

  •  Post-secondary certification in Project Management or PMP designation.
